Old carpet is one of those things homeowners put up with way longer than they should. It traps dirt, shows wear fast, and just makes a space feel dated. On this job, we pulled it all out and replaced it with luxury vinyl plank throughout - including the stairs, which is one of the more detail-heavy parts of any flooring project.

Stairs are tricky. Every tread has to be cut clean, fit flush, and lined up consistently from top to bottom. There's no hiding sloppy work on a staircase - you're looking straight down at it every day. We took the time to get each tread seated right, with crisp white risers that set the whole thing off. The gray wood-look LVP ties the staircase into the rest of the main floor seamlessly.

The LVP runs through the lower level too, and the difference it makes in how the space feels is hard to overstate. Cleaner, brighter, easier to maintain. LVP is also one of the better choices for high-traffic areas because it holds up to scratches, moisture, and everyday use in a way that carpet and hardwood just can't.

On top of the flooring, we built out a full bathroom in the lower level from scratch. That means framing, a drop ceiling, fresh drywall, a full shower surround unit, plumbing rough-in, flooring - all of it. Building a bathroom where one didn't exist before takes real coordination across multiple trades, and getting everything done cleanly in a tighter space is where experience really shows.

This is the kind of scope that turns an underused lower level into a space you actually want to spend time in. Good flooring and a functional bathroom are two of the highest-return upgrades you can make in a home - not just for everyday livability, but for long-term value too.
